About Ubud Local
Ubud Local is an independent, locally-informed guide to Ubud, Bali, and the day trips around it.
What this guide is
Ubud Local exists for travellers who want more than the standard tourist circuit. The famous sights are often worth seeing, and we say so. But the valley and the hills around it also hide quieter temples, villages, waterfalls and restaurants that most guides overlook. This site brings those together with the practical information you need to actually visit them.
The guide has three parts: things to do near Ubud, a short list of restaurants worth planning around, and practical guides covering money, transport, temples, scams and where to stay.
How places are chosen
- Places are visited in person before they are listed.
- They are selected for quality and value, not popularity or review counts.
- The lists are deliberately short. If something isn't worth your limited time, it isn't here.
- When a well-known place is genuinely good, it's included; being famous doesn't disqualify it.
How information is kept current
Every page shows the date it was last checked. Pages are reviewed regularly, and that date changes only when the page has actually been reviewed. Prices, fees and opening hours are published only once verified; where we haven't been able to confirm them, we leave them out rather than guess. More detail is in our editorial policy.
